New calculations are presented for Gamow-Teller beta decay of nuclei near 100 Sn. Essentially all of the 100 Sn Gamow-Teller decay strength is predicted to go to a single state at an excitation energy of 1.8 MeV in 100 In. The first calculations are presented for the decays of neighboring odd-even and odd-odd nuclei which show, in contrast to 100 Sn, surprisingly complex and broad Gamow-Teller ...

Pygmy and Giant Dipole Resonances in Sn

We report on first results from dipole-strength measurements in the region of unstable nuclei around Sn; experimental details were presented earlier [1]. In brief, such studies are motivated by theoretical predictions of multipole distributions in exotic nuclei differing much from that observed in stable nuclei; aditional strength near the neutron separation threshold, moreover, may have conseq...

Generalized seniority scheme in light Sn isotopes

The yrast generalized seniority states are compared with the corresponding shell model states for the case of the Sn isotopes 104−112Sn. For most of the cases the energies agree within 100 keV and the overlaps of the wave functions are greater than 0.7 In the last years the region of light Sn isotopes has been intensively investigated both from experimental and theoretical perspectives. The mai...

Super - allowed α decay above doubly - magic 100 Sn and properties of 104 Te = 100 Sn ⊗ α

α-decay half-lives for Te and Xe close above the doubly-magic Sn are calculated from systematic double-folding potentials. The derived α preformation factors are compared to results for Po and Rn above the doubly-magic Pb. α-decay energies of Qα = 5.42 ± 0.07MeV and 4.65 ± 0.15MeV are predicted for Te and Xe; the corresponding half-lives are T1/2 ≈ 5 ns for Te and of the order of 60μs for Xe. A...

Scaling laws and effective-range approach for electromagnetic strength in single-particle halo nuclei

Electromagnetic strength functions of single-particle halo nuclei exhibit universal features that can be described in terms of characteristic scale parameters [1, 2]. These exotic nuclei are often well described assuming a simple nucleon+core structure. They have been studied extensively in recent years by electromagnetic excitation with the help of the Coulomb breakup method. A large electroma...
